		<description>Who’s to Blame?
Ever get tired of the division that constantly eats away at our tiny island of Kaua’i? Ever wonder who’s really to blame? There’s always a lot of news print pointing the finger towards newcomers, developers, haoles, big boxes, etc, for all, if not most, of Kaua’i’s problems.
I believe the one issue that displays the most unity on Kaua’i is the issue of keeping our island as rural as possible. I feel most of us would like to preserve a semblance of rural-ness that reflects our agricultural heritage along with a more serene, laid back, less crowed community laced with ALOHA in our daily lives be it at work, at
play, on our roadways, in our schools or just next door to our neighbors. But, alas, this picture of 20 years ago does not seem possible, maybe because of all the changes that have taken place over the past two decades + by the above mentioned outside influences.
What is the real cause for this community division? What force or forces have transformed; our farm lands into asphalt lands?; our beach fronts into battle fronts?; our schools into police protected indoctrination institutes?; our neighborhoods into drug hoods?; our country roads into congested substandard roadways?; our “mama and papa” stores into mega markets?; our pineapple and sugar fields into vacation / golfing / residential developments?; our small community dumps into a gigantic mountain of contaminated landfill waste?; and to top it all off, a governing body that stole “the People’s” property tax relief Ohana Kaua’i Charter Amendment “Victory vote” in the 2004 General Election, raiding votes from the electoral process and throwing them into the judicial process? Who really made all this possible? Who is really stealing our Rights, Freedoms and Liberties?
It must have been those folks who were elected to office, hired to create rules and regulations and paid to enforce them, the laws, which allowed these devastating, divisional changes to take place. It must have been those “newcomers, developers, haoles, big box, etc” politicians elected to office to lead our community down the right path preserving what “the People” wanted.
Opps! I must be wrong. I don’t know of any “newcomer, developers, haoles,
big box, etc politicians” being elected to office to run our County, our State. Correct
me if I am wrong but are not the overwhelmingly vast majority of our elected officials
of local ancestry? Are they to blame? But no, they cannot be because who put them into
office with their votes? It was a small minority of registered voters that vote in a block every election guaranteeing that certain local candidates get into office to be plied, wooed, and influenced to make laws that divide our Community, coupled with a very LARGE majority of registered voters that stayed home or went to the beach and did not vote. It’s not hard to figure out; if you don’t vote you’re voting for the incumbents.
If you really want a united community working toward the betterment of the majority of “the People”, then live up to your responsibility of being a citizen of this State and vote in new elected officials that will protect that which is most dear to you,
hopefully your family and kids, not a day off. Elect at least 4-5 new Council members next election and let’s take back our council, our government, our lives.

<description>With due respect to the status quo of political parties that exist, the notion of establishing a new political party is appealing for the following reasons:

a. A fresh, new start with no "prior" obligations

b. The opportunity for "change" based on priorities established by "grass-roots" concerns that may be brought directly to the new "regime" of public servants (if we can get them voted into office).

c. Getting rid of the existing bureaucracy that is too entrenched in doing "business as usual."

It would also remind all of us that political parties (those that exist now and whatever may present itself in the future) should NOT exist to perpetuate party control in public office. If the batch of people who get elected to any position cannot get the job done, that batch should be replaced. Pure and simple!

This is really an opportunity to "think outside the box" and to act accordingly.

The promotion of establishing a new party goes far beyond re-placing the traditional slew of candidates who are labeled to be from "far-right to extremely left (out)."

I see it, rather, as an opportunity to create a "rainbow of representation" that will work on the priorities that need to be met. I see it, also, as an opportunity to encourage, invite, and promote renewed interest and activity in the processes involved to hold our public officials accountable. The big challenge lies in prodding the public to get involved in the process.

Otherwise, this will be just another idea that has merit....but no support.

Sincerely,

Jose

ONE SUGGESTION ONLY: Limit the length that users can post. I want it concise and I bet your users have limited time / attention too. Thanks! WW

Admin: Hey Winston, your company Wasabi Marketing played a big role supporting this website from the very beginning. JUST SO EVERYONE KNOWS, WASABI MARKETING IS DONATING THE SERVER SPACE TO KEEP www.voiceofkauai.com UP &#038; RUNNING! Hey Winston, give me a ring if you can, I need a tech guru like you to hammer out a tech issue.

		<description>Aloha Friends,

I first moved to Kauai in ‘89, only staying 6 months after Iniki. If not for the tourist nature of my fields, I would have stayed. The couple months after Iniki were trying, but the tight feeling of community was un-real. For the most part, there was no social rank and there was no race, we were all hurricane survivors! I hope deep down at the core Kauai still has that oneness neccessary to show the rest of the State/Country/World how to do it right.

Revolution is neccessary to bring about change under the current regime, and most likely under the successors as well. A Conquest Of The Correct is only possible if you always take the high road. You must win properly or you have become part of the problem. There are probably more than a few throughout the Islands who would move (back) to be part of the truth, even possibly even a couple on Oahu.

The first big step might be true believers on the County Council. The local political ladscape will be at it’s softest for the next elections, due the StupidFerry fiasco and more. Strike fast, there may never be a better time, just make sure you do it right!

Maybe I’ve missed something. But why isn’t anyone holding the politicians responsible for this mess? After all, who in their right mind would burn $180 MILLION DOLLARS (to build two “superferry’s”) WITHOUT doing an environmental impact report FIRST? Are you kidding me? Publish the names for all to see.</description>

<description>What a great way to begin the week with the news of a new website designed for residents to express their ideas and concerns about issues on Kaua’i. A brilliant idea. Having lived on Kaua’i 41 years, I have become very concerned these past 20 to 25 years as to the direction Kaua’i is moving.

Kaua’i has always had a “restricted” press, but seems to be showing indications of broadening the realm of communications when it comes to blatant breaking of the laws, stealing of Rights &#38; Freedoms, and the larceny of closed door politics. Now, “We the People” have another avenue to get our opinions out.

The originator of the website asked for different topics. How about surveying the community to see if anyone else is interested or thinks it productive to begin a new independent political party on Kaua’i. It can be done with 670 signatures of registered voters on a petition and it will be a legal State political party. It’s name is “We the People”
(WtP) and it will offer 4 to 5 candidates, with at least 1 Hawaiian candidate, for Council seats in the 2008 election.
“We the People”(WtP) needs at least 4 new members to get control of the Council and each candidate will pledge, Promise, to vote “YES” in favor of bills that has the support of the residents of Kaua’i.
The first two year term will focus on 6 major issues and when one issue is implemented another issue will be put on the agenda. There will always be 6 major issues before the Council and the field is wide open for suggestions. I’ve suggest some major ones below.
Last July 4th I introduced this idea to the G. I. and did get an article printed. I am now hoping to get some feed back from Kaua’i’s newest addition to the website. The petitions have been printed up by the State so it is legal and will be recognized as a legitimate political paarty. WtP will also be able to place 3 candidates for State House seats. This could be fun as well as very productive in regaining our island and our government. But it will take assistance
from you and others, you know, “We the People”. This is strictly a Kaua’i effort but if we succeed in 08 then the other islands may wish to join us. For now, its strictly Kaua’i only.

&lt;code&gt;&lt;!--more--&gt;

I will include a Press Release giving more info on the types of issues. Poll questions may be:

1. Do you think we need new council members?
2. Do you think a new Kaua’i “We the People” party will work?
3. Are you willing to help obtain signatures of registered voters for the petition?
4. If you do not think it will work, Why not?
5. If not, should we all just give up?
Just think. If WtP controlled the Council, we could have a building moratorium, an affordable land for affordable housing program, an Ohana Kaua’i tax relief bill in place by end of 2008, a working alternate energy facility with lower electrical bills, better education for our children, etc. Then “WtP” would be in charge of our &#38; our children’s lives and futures.
Check out the press release IF I can get it pasted to our great new website. Mahalo and ALOHA.

Press Release July 4, 2007

Press Release

“We the People”
Political Party in the State of Hawaii
PETITION
July 4, 2007

FACT: America’s Founding Forefathers focused on creating a Nation built upon Rights, Freedoms and Liberties. Today, politicians in both parties are focused on destroying our Nation, trying to create a giant “Big Brother Bureaucratic” junta for special interest and personal gain, forgetting “We the People”
FACT: Its time to stop electing the same individuals repeatedly back into office. Its time to take back our Island, and our Nation, by voting them out of office.
FACT: Its time to elect 4-5 council members who will guarantee “yes” votes for issues supported by “We the People” voters. How can this be done? Simple!
FACT: There are 38,000 + registered voters on Kaua’i. 12,000 to 14,000 voters vote as a block in every election putting these same faces back into in office.
FACT: The only way stop this is to vote them out of office with “our block vote”. The remaining 24,000 plus voters need to vote in a block as well.
FACT: How? By forming a new “We the People”political party in the State of Hawaii
via the petition process. Number of signatures required? 663 signatures of registered voters Names, Residence Address (no P.O. boxes) &#38; Month /Day/Year
of birth. That is it. Then a committee is formed and 4-5 candidates will be selected to run for office who will guarantee “yes” votes on voter issues;
SUCH AS:
______________________________________

Implementation of the Ohana Kaua’i property tax relief Charter Amendment passed in the 2004 General Election, ignored by our mayor &#38; council members, who tossed the voters election victory into Court, disenfranchising their vote.

Implement a “Zero Waste” (0-11% landfill) recycling program using developer’s money, not taxpayer’s, to expand our solid waste/alternate energy infrastructure,
reducing fossil fuel dependency &#38; eliminating your monthly “fuel adjustment” bill.

Implementation of the existing “eminent domain” clause in our County Charter to obtain affordable land for affordable housing from large landowners. There
can be no affordable housing without affordable land?

Implementation of a funded “County Manager” civilian investigative board comprised of civilian, non-political, individuals from all areas of Kaua’i.

Implementation of a one year “moratorium on development” that can be extended by unanimous vote of civilian board or via the ballot box.

Implementation of an independent audit of the County of Kaua’i.
______________________________________
PLUS:
Other issues of concern to be added by the “We the People” committee as the previous 6 issues listed are implemented. Issues concerning education, traffic, Hawaiian issues, security / health issues and other urgent needs arising from “We the People”. Additional
input and issues are welcomed and will be considered by the board.

DOING IT!
663 signatures is easy enough to obtain. What’s really needed are individuals that are
seriously concerned about our family’s lives and futures on Kaua’i as well as what is happening to Kaua’i &#38; to our children.. Workers are needed, not complainers, to help get voters to sign the “We the People” political party petition. 80 pages available.
Anyone interested in helping Kaua’i set a new “common sense course” for the future should contact John Hoff at 332-9745 or via postal service at P.O. Box 547,
Koloa, Hi. 96756.
MEMBERSHIP:
One need not join “We the People” party as a member though all are welcomed. The “We the People” party is merely seeking to place 4-5 strongly united “We the People” candidates upon the ballot as alternative candidates and agenda options that voters can rely upon to be implemented upon victory. “The good guys don’t hide.” If we are to take back our island &#38; government the “good guys”, We the majority, must stand up and fight back, just as the protesters did a few weeks ago down at the harbor, as a united block using our power of the VOTE in Election 2008.
Your vote is the most peaceful way of protesting. Why not try it. Imagine the violence IF we don’t do something now to stop this madness within our political system. Our elected officials are not listening to us, “We the People”. Lets make sure they hear us this time around.

FACT: There are 38,000 + registered voters on Kaua’i. 12,000 to 14,000 voters vote as a block in every election putting these same faces back into in office.<br />
FACT: The only way stop this is to vote them out of office with “our block vote”. The remaining 24,000 plus voters need to vote in a block as well.<br />
FACT: How? By forming a new “We the People”political party in the State of Hawaii<br />
via the petition process. Number of signatures required? 663 signatures of registered voters Names, Residence Address (no P.O. boxes) &amp; Month /Day/Year<br />
of birth. That is it. Then a committee is formed and 4-5 candidates will be selected to run for office who will guarantee “yes” votes on voter issues;<br />
SUCH AS:<br />
______________________________________</p>
<p>Implementation of the Ohana Kaua’i property tax relief Charter Amendment passed in the 2004 General Election, ignored by our mayor &amp; council members, who tossed the voters election victory into Court, disenfranchising their vote.</p>
<p>Implement a “Zero Waste” (0-11% landfill) recycling program using developer’s money, not taxpayer’s, to expand our solid waste/alternate energy infrastructure,<br />
reducing fossil fuel dependency &amp; eliminating your monthly “fuel adjustment” bill.</p>
<p>Implementation of the existing “eminent domain” clause in our County Charter to obtain affordable land for affordable housing from large landowners. There<br />
can be no affordable housing without affordable land?</p>
<p>Implementation of a funded “County Manager” civilian investigative board comprised of civilian, non-political, individuals from all areas of Kaua’i.</p>
<p>Implementation of a one year “moratorium on development” that can be extended by unanimous vote of civilian board or via the ballot box.</p>
<p>Implementation of an independent audit of the County of Kaua’i.<br />
______________________________________<br />
PLUS:<br />
Other issues of concern to be added by the “We the People” committee as the previous 6 issues listed are implemented. Issues concerning education, traffic, Hawaiian issues, security / health issues and other urgent needs arising from “We the People”. Additional<br />
input and issues are welcomed and will be considered by the board.</p>
<p>DOING IT!<br />
663 signatures is easy enough to obtain. What’s really needed are individuals that are<br />
seriously concerned about our family’s lives and futures on Kaua’i as well as what is happening to Kaua’i &amp; to our children.. Workers are needed, not complainers, to help get voters to sign the “We the People” political party petition. 80 pages available.<br />
Anyone interested in helping Kaua’i set a new “common sense course” for the future should contact John Hoff at 332-9745 or via postal service at P.O. Box 547,<br />
Koloa, Hi. 96756.<br />
MEMBERSHIP:<br />
One need not join “We the People” party as a member though all are welcomed. The “We the People” party is merely seeking to place 4-5 strongly united “We the People” candidates upon the ballot as alternative candidates and agenda options that voters can rely upon to be implemented upon victory. “The good guys don’t hide.” If we are to take back our island &amp; government the “good guys”, We the majority, must stand up and fight back, just as the protesters did a few weeks ago down at the harbor, as a united block using our power of the VOTE in Election 2008.<br />
Your vote is the most peaceful way of protesting. Why not try it. Imagine the violence IF we don’t do something now to stop this madness within our political system. Our elected officials are not listening to us, “We the People”. Lets make sure they hear us this time around.</p>

<description>Hopefully council members and state officials will use this tool to gauge how residents on Kauai feel about issues on here.
