Aloha kakou. Does anyone have an update regarding a ruling the Hawai`i Supreme Court was supposed to give regarding the property tax amendment that was put on the ballot and overwhemingly approved by the voters of Kaua`i County? I have been following this lawsuit and can find nothing after February 2007. Mahalo a nui loa for your kokua.

It seems that there is one “hot” issue on Kaua’i in recent months that you haven’t included in your list. That is the building of a drug rehab center next to Salt Pond. There seems to be significant community opposition but strong local government support. As someone who travels to Salt Pond nearly every day, I’ll admit I’m concerned about the impact. I’d be very interested to see if the concern is Island-wide or primarily among those folks who live nearby.
Considerations are:
- There seems to be considerable drug use at Salt Pond now:
a) does it make sense to place the facility in an area where drugs are readitly available?
b) Is it appropriate to place a drug rehab center in a recreational area where both local and visitor families go
- is there a chance of pollution of the salt beds?
*Admin: Is there anybody else who would like this to become a topic of concern?
2 topics of concern:local government corruption and police crimes.
*Admin: Would anybody else like to create a topic on these issues? If you do, please send your ideas on how we can approach these two possible topics with tact and moderation. Maintaining the peace and avoiding the creation of another on-line battle field is a priority.
I’d like to hear what people think about the fires on Kauai.
I think its someone starting them.
I’d like to know what others opinions are. =]

OK Kaua’i!! Here is another hot topic that needs to be addressed and voiced upon. “The Wal-Mart Super Center expansion Project.” What are concerns and comments regarding this topic?

I think their is a need for topic about the Hanalei River Delta being used as a Commercial Port. This is currently illegal, yet it happens 4-5 times every week. The 20 or so protesters aware of this, have stood their ground, not relenting holding signs every morning this West Side ship comes to pick up tourists for a na pali cruise. The fact is that this one operator is leading the way for more if allowed to use. Second is that they are contributing to delta dredging, Which is illegal in Hawaii right? Their is a loophole in the law, which does’nt allow dredging by machinery, but pushing big motors into the sand and blowing out sand seems to be legal. Thirdly, is that this will only lead to Hanalei Bay becoming the next Nawilili Harbor. Which it is well on it’s way to becoming after this summer’s staff infested waters. And you know what that will lead to.. a superferry port!
NEW TOPIC-The out of control property taxes affect everyone that lives on kauai. Homeowners must raise rents every year just to meet these increases. When are the people of kauai going to get out there and vote for someone that will work for the people, not their own agenda’s.
This looks cool so far, what’s up people?
If there’s anyone else here, let me know.
Oh, and yes I’m a real person LOL.
Peace,
